Selection criteria

  • Only applications from South African citizens will be considered.
  • The main criteria for the selection of applications is financial need and academic potential.
  • Bursary applications are invited from young people who aim to study full time towards an undergraduate university (academic) degree in Commerce (Economics, Business Economics, Accounting, Investments and Finance), Business Science, Science and Mathematics, Engineering and IT or a Commercial LLB.
  • Applicants currently in Grade 12 and applicants already in possession of a National Senior certificate should have obtained at least 50% in all their subjects with a minimum of 60% in Mathematics (not Maths Literacy) and 60% in English. Applicants who wrote Matric (Grade 12) prior to 2008 must have obtained a minimum of a C-symbol in both Mathematics (HG) and English (HG).

South African citizens residing in the Republic of South Africa and who qualify for admission to a University or Technikon, or who have already passed one or more years at a University or Technikon and are not studying with the aid of an employer or bursary. Technikon or University students who have already successfully completed one or more years will be considered on their Grade 12 and most recent academic results.

Fields of study in which bursaries are awarded have to be directly related to industry, and will only include the following:

  • Engineering:
    • BSc Industrial, Chemical, Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical, Mining, Metallurgy, Civil, Analytical Chemistry and Geology. (Technikon level leading to B. Tech).
  • Applied Commercial Sciences:
    • Bcom (Accountancy CA), Bcom Financial Mathematics, Information Systems, Information Technology and Computer Science, Investment Management, Agriculture, Environmental Science and Logistics.

Vodacom’s External Bursary Scheme enables SA citizens to obtain bursaries for full-time studies at accredited tertiary institutions. This applies to undergraduate level degrees in those fields of study which meet the needs and skills requirements of the Group:

  • Information Technology,

  • Electrical or Electronic Engineering (LC only)
  • Computer Engineering
